In Language Arts this week, our writing assignment asked us to brainstorm and make opinions about what we can do for others and nice things we can say to others to "fill their buckets". We learned that if we follow these rules, we will stay happy and our own buckets will stay full! In phonics, we learned about the sounds/a/, /m/, /p/, /s/, and /t/ but focused mostly on the short /a/ sound. We saw this sound in our spelling words for this week and even took a dictation test on them! The stories Pam and Sam and NatCan Jump helped us practice these sounds more fluently and work on our comparing/contrasting and comprehension.
In math, we continued to work with bundles of ten but we began addition as well. We learned the definition of teen numbers and used ten frames as a strategy to add teen numbers together. We also began working on the concept of taking away for subtraction too. Similar to the bucket fillers, the Bully Free Classroom concept we worked on this week was saying positive comments to others. When we say positive things, others feel happy. When we all feel happy, we are better able to do our work and have the ability to work in groups and independently. We are not able to do our best work when we are upset. Can't wait for next week!
