Week of October 24th:
This has been a busy week with district testing for math and Red Ribbon Week. We also had our October celebration day today and Luis' mom brought in cupcakes for the class! His birthday was earlier this month on the 6th and Jayden's was on the 22nd. Our PBIS social skill of the week was "accepting no for an answer".The students have learned that includes looking at the person speaking, saying "okay", staying calm, and asking questions later if you disagree. Last week, we finished our unit 3 test in math on the topic of comparing lengths. This week, we began unit 4: exploring quantities to 99. We got to practice counting, writing, and exploring quantities through 99 by ones by thinking about and investigating a bake sale. It was fun to think about counting cookies when we have baked with our families. Next week, we will work on being more fluent in these skills. In writing, we are working on comparing. We read and discussed the book Stellaluna and compared two animals from the book:bats and birds. We will continue to extend this investigation next week. In comprehension, we investigated an informative article called,"Chicks and Chickens". We were able to keep with the theme of comparing by creating a double bubble map to compare adult chickens (hens and roosters) to baby chicks. We also picked out interesting or unknown vocabulary from the text. During enrichment time (art), we began learning about Dia de los Muertos. With that information, we began creating our own sugar skull masks (on paper, of course). We also studied location and mapping in social studies. This included looking at Google Map sand discussing the map of our school and the area around the school. In science, we continued investigating the concepts of transparent, translucent, and opaque. What a busy week! Take a deep breath and have a relaxing weekend! P.S. Parent/conference meeting notices will be going home next week.
